WSHL Adds Vernal Oilers In Utah

The Western States Hockey League will be returning to Utah with a new team as the Vernal Oilers will kick off their inaugural season in 2021-22. The Oilers will mark a fresh start in the state of Utah for the WSHL, after seeing the Ogden Mustangs and Utah Outliers head to the United States Premier Hockey League prior to the 2020-21 season.

Vernal’s website lists Joe Pfleegor as head coach for the team, which will mark Pfleegor’s return to the WSHL as well, after previously serving stints as head coach of the Mustangs and Cheyenne Stampede within the WSHL. Pfleegor has also made different stops in the collegiate club hockey ranks, most notably with Weber State University out of Ogden.

Pfleegor spent last season as part of the Uintah Utes organization, coaching the high school-aged team, also based out of Vernal.
