GMHL South Muskoka Shield Appear on Facebook Marketplace

The GMHL’s South Muskoka Shield were forced into dormancy for the 2023-24 season by the league, and it appears that in an effort to sell the team as agreed upon, the team has resorted to attempting to transfer its ownership via Facebook Marketplace.

The GMHL announced back on May 1 that it had instituted “a mandatory leave of absence for the South Muskoka Shield for the 2023/24 season,” with the league statement going on to say that it, “has proudly had a club in Gravenhurst under the South Muskoka Shield name for 18 years and we are hopeful to return for the 2024/25 season under a new ownership group.”

It’s been a rough period for the franchise, who’s last winning season came during the 2016-17 season with a record of 26-10-6. Since then, the team has been unable to muster more than 14 wins in a season.

With a deadline of January 15th for the team, and a February 1st, 2024 deadline by the league, it’ll remain to be seen if the team is able to find a buyer to continue with the team in Gravenhurst, Ontario.
