Colorado Grit Joining NAHL in 2023-24

The North American Hockey League announced the addition of the Colorado Grit to the league’s South Division starting with the 2023-24 season. The Grit marks the second expansion team for the league for next season, joining the Rochester Jr. Americans.

Owned by Colorado Sports Partners, LLC, with members Bob Bowden, Casey Bradshaw, and David Clarkson, the team will play out of the Greeley Ice Haus in Greeley, Colorado.

It is interesting to note that the Northern Colorado Eagles of the USPHL Premier were announced to transition to the USPHL’s NCDC next season, and are currently playing out of the Greeley Ice Haus this season. As of now, there has been no indication or reports of any changes to the Eagles move to the NCDC.

The Grit become the ninth team in the NAHL’s South Division, making it the largest in the league. Of the league’s footprint, the closer teams are in the South with New Mexico and Amarillo being eight hours away. It does however make for some longer trips to Corpus Christi and Shreveport as well.

Between the NAHL and USPHL’s NCDC, with the inclusion of the new west coast-based league that, high-tier junior hockey is looking to take a foothold in the western US.
