The Lake Erie Bighorns of the United States Premier Hockey League have reportedly relocated to Jamestown, New York prior to the start of their 2022-23 season, despite the season set to get underway in a matter of weeks.
The news comes by way of WNY News Now, reporting the team moving to the Northwest Arena for next fall. A look at the Lake Erie schedule as of 8/27 on the USPHL website shows no games being populated for the team, and as of 8/28, the team is no longer listed on the schedule page. The Bighorns are still listed on the league’s “Team Members” page however.
Any games for the Bighorns are now listed as TBD for their opponent’s schedules, and located at the Northwest Arena, so it remains to be seen what type of rebranding takes place.
Jamestown was previously home to the North American Hockey League’s Jamestown Rebels, which were sold and relocated to Sewell, New Jersey for the 2022-23 season. The move actually marks a return for the franchise, which had previously been known as the Southern Tier Xpress of the NA3HL.
When the NAHL and the Rebels were announced for the 2018-19 season, the Xpress were sold and moved to Lake Erie, which coincided with the Bighorns and five other NA3HL East Division teams moving to the USPHL.
