Binghamton Black Bears Hire Gary Gill As Head Coach

Per the Federal Prospects Hockey League’s transaction wire and the Binghamton Black Bears roster page, Gary Gill has been hired as head coach of the Black Bears for the 2022-23 season.

Gill makes his return to the FPHL after previously being named as assistant coach of the Columbus River Dragons in the 2019-20 season, but ended up no longer being with the team come mid-season. Gill was then to become the head coach of the Danville Dashers for the 2020-21 season, but that would eventually be cancelled due to COVID-19.

This past season, Gill returned to the junior leagues as head coach of the EHL’s Vermont Lumberjacks, coaching the team to a 21-20-5 record.

Gill becomes the Black Bears third head coach in team history after former James Henry was initially named the team’s first head coach. Henry ended up leaving the team before the season started to join the ECHL’s Reading Royals as an assistant coach. Former Danville Dashers and Indianapolis Ice head coach Rod Davidson was then hired to replace Henry.
