The New Mexico Ice Wolves have named Darren Banks as their inaugural head coach for the 2022-23 season, as they begin their trek in the North American 3 Hockey League. Banks was most recently with the Minot Minotauros of the NAHL as assistant coach and their Director of Scouting.
Banks began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the USPHL’s Steele County Blades, before heading to Minot.
Banks’ junior playing career was with the Gillette Wild for three seasons, as they played in the America West Hockey League and made the jump to the NA3HL in the 2014-15 season. In his final season, Banks played three games for Minot on a NAHL call-up.
Following his junior career, Banks played NCAA D-3 hockey with Finlandia, before transferring to the University of Oklahoma, and finally the University of Utah in the ACHA.
The Ice Wolves NA3HL team will hit the ice for the first time in the 2022-23 season after purchasing the Oklahoma City Ice Hawks franchise, with the team remaining in the NA3HL’s South Division.
