Louisiana Drillers NA3HL Names Rob Weingartner Head Coach

The Louisiana Drillers have announced that Rob Weingartner will be taking over the bench boss duties for the team, after serving the 2021-22 season as the team’s Director of Player Personnel.

This will mark Weingartner’s third team as head coach, after having previously coached the Florida Jr. Blades of the USPHL, and the Wichita Jr. Thunder of the WSHL.

Not mentioned in the reports is the status of previous head coach Shawn McNeil., though McNeil is still listed on the team’s website. McNeil had served the team the previous six seasons in some type of coaching role, jumping between head and assistant coach.

Weingartner returns to the bench after having only served as the head coach of the Florida Jr. Blades in the 2020-21 season, and then made the move to Louisiana. Prior to joining the Jr. Blades, Weingartner was head coach of the Wichita Jr. Thunder for six seasons, one of which included a Thorne Cup championship in 2016-17.

Weingartner’s coaching career began in the 2005-06 season with the Wichita Thunder of the then-Central Hockey League, with his playing career seeing four seasons in Wichita, and four seasons with the Louisiana IceGators of the ECHL.
