CAJHL Announces Expansion To Calgary In 2022-23

The Can-Am Junior Hockey League has announced a new expansion franchise in Calgary for the 2022-23 season. The team comes as part of the AMP Hockey Academy in Calgary and will be named the AMP Warriors. The team will play out of Winsport Canada Olympic Park facility next season.

The AMP group is led by Brad Layzell, who was drafted by the Montreal Canadians in 1991 and was a member of the Canadian National team in 1996. The team has also named the head coach for next season, as Claude Vilgrain will be behind the bench. Vilgrain had played in the NHL for the Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia Flyers, and was also a member of the 1988 Canadian National team in the Winter Olympics in Calgary.

The AMP National Sports Academy at Winsport offers accelerated multisport development programs for boys, girls and adaptive athletes, with sports such as hockey, snowboarding, lacrosse, and golf.

The AMP team marks the first announced expansion team for the CAJHL after they split from the Western States Hockey League after the new year as the league hits the home stretch in the regular season, and the Champion’s Cup in Cold Lake.
