WPHL Billings Announces Blizzard As Team Name

As the Western Professional Hockey League looks to begin their inaugural season in October 2022, the first announced team has revealed their team name in Billings as the Billings Blizzard.

The name reveal comes after the team held a “name-the-team” contest following their initial announcement press conference, with the Blizzard being a write-in name that edged out the provided choices by the team.

Initially, the team provided the Montana Magic, Montana Magma, Montana Roughnecks, and Billings Bullheads as choices and allowed the write-in option as well.

“We thought that was a great name and thought it should have been on our original choices,” Keith Russ, co-owner of Pick Six Entertainment, was quoted as saying. The team’s logos are currently being designed, with the colors expected to be similar to the upcoming Billings Outlaws indoor football team that Pick Six Entertainment also owns.

As of now, the Blizzard are still looking for a home arena as the larger venue, the First Interstate Arena at MetraPark, is not equipped for making ice. The Centennial Ice Arena would be the Blizzard’s other option, but only seats 550.
