The Western States Hockey League kicked off their annual Las Vegas showcase on Sunday, but with a couple of teams short as the Edmonton Eagles were removed from the schedule a couple of days prior, and the Vernal Oilers experienced bus troubles.
On Saturday, the WSHL tweeted out an updated schedule for the showcase with all of the Edmonton games removed. No explanation was given regarding the cancellation as it knocked the showcase down to five teams for the three-day event.
Then Sunday afternoon, the WSHL announced the cancellation of Vernal and the Cold Lake Aeros’ game due to the Oilers bus breaking down along the way to Vegas, and the Oilers eventually arriving late Sunday night for the showcase.
Due to the cancellations, the showcase has been trimmed to just three games each day. Out of the nine total games, Vernal will be participating in four of those, following a six-game-in-seven-day stretch at home against the Barrhead Bombers and Hinton Timberwolves, with the Oilers sweeping all six games.
