Bellingham Blazers Announce Dormancy For 2021-22

Well, they tried. After announcing they were going to remain in the WSHL for the 2021-22 season, the Bellingham Blazers are the fourth team to announce their dormancy in the league.

After seeing the Utah Altitude, Seattle Totems, and Rogue Valley Royals announce their dormancy in the first week of the WSHL season, the Blazers looked to join the Vernal Oilers as the remaining US-based teams to keep playing this season. Having originally announced they were going to attempt to remain playing in the Provincial Division, the cost of season looks to have caught up to the Blazers.

The Blazers end the season having only played five games against Vernal, dropping all five by a combined score of 50-7. The last game the teams were supposed to play on November 21st was postponed due to what the league called a “lack of availability of officials.”

Bellingham had started a GoFundMe campaign when they first announced they were going to keep playing this season. The team listed a goal of $125,000 to cover the cost of the travel budget, managing to only raise a total of $1,295.

The announcement comes a couple of weeks ahead of the WSHL Showcase in Las Vegas. Having only played their five games, the Blazers had no other games on the schedule listed until February. With the Showcase schedule having been posted by the league, adjustments will need to be made as the league continues with only six teams.
