The Western States Hockey League announced the opening weekend series between the Utah Altitude and Vernal Oilers would not have any streaming broadcast coverage of the games due to “technical issues” at the Olympic Oval.
The news also means that there won’t be any video-on-demand replays of the weekend series either, leaving the league with only four games being broadcast over the league’s opening weekend.

Indications appear to be that the games will still be played as scheduled. It will be interesting to keep an eye on scoresheets or any possible postponements to see if there may be an underlying issue of roster sizes.
As of posting time, both teams have eight players listed on their protected lists with the Altitude showing five skaters and three goaltenders, while the Oilers show six skaters and two goaltenders.
We’ll take the roster sizes with a grain of salt for the current time being however, as that is dependent on the teams entering them into the stats site. With the first game of the series not taking place until October 31st, there is still some time that more names can be added.
