Odessa’s Fortier Heads to NCAA; Hires Deur As New Head Coach

The Odessa Jackalopes announced that head coach Jason Fortier had accepted a position in the NCAA with the Division-1 University of Maine as an assistant coach. The move comes following a single year as head coach of the Jackalopes, which saw Odessa finish last in the NAHL’s South Division with a 12-36-4-4 record. Prior to joining Odessa, Fortier served two-plus seasons as head coach of the BCHL’s Coquitlam Express.

With the departure of Fortier, the Jackalopes have announced that Scott Deur will be taking over as head coach this season. Deur has worked as an assistant coach with the NAHL’s Fairbanks Ice Dogs for the previous six seasons. The move is also a return to the Lone Star State for Deur, as he had previously played with the NAHL’s Texas Tornado based in Frisco, Texas in 2009-2010.
